Weekly Challenge

It was my turn to have the pre-school class today at church. Our lesson was on the good Samaritan. The lesson was simple, but was a good reminder of how it makes Jesus happy when we help others. As my students reminded me with their examples, I realized that it does not have to be anything major that we do. I am going to challenge myself to help at least 3 people this week. I challenge you to do the same.

Conversation with a 3 year old. . .

Aiden: Mama, what are you doing?

Me: Cooking dinner.

Aiden: Can I help you?

Me: Sure. Go wash your hands and you can put the potatoes in the crock pot and help me count them.

2 minutes later

Me: Aiden, how many potatoes do we have? Can you count them?

Aiden: A, B, C, D, E, F, G. . .

Me: Son, what are doing? You can’t count by singing your A,B,Cs.

Aiden: Okay, mama, I’m tired of helping you. I’m going to go play now.

Weekly Verse

Romans 12:2

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Our Pastor spoke on discernment today. I read this and thought that it was fitting. As Christians, it is not our place to judge others. God instead wants us to discern right from wrong so that we may do HIS will and pray for others to seek HIM.

It Makes My Heart Happy. . .

When I got married I could not wait to get out of my parents house. The number one reason for this is because I was tired of being forced to go to church. Growing up, my parents rarely missed a church service, revival, or sing. I swore when I got married that I would never go to church again. God really had to teach me the hard way to get my act together.

When my husband and I first got married, we made a lot of stupid decisions. These decisions mainly involved money. It put our marriage in a bad place and caused a lot of stress. A good friend of mine called me out and asked, “Are you paying your tithes?” This caused me to laugh. How could you pay tithes when you weren’t attending church? From the moment my friend found out we were not, she did not let up. She stayed on my case. Things got ridiculous. It seemed like every single week a major appliance or one of our trucks would break down. We never had enough money to repair them and were living paycheck to paycheck. When I would phone up my friend, she would just ask if I had started tithing yet. I finally got sick of hearing that question. I was even more sick and tired of this roller coaster ride of disaster. I did not know where the money was going to come from, but I decided we would go to church on Sunday (to sit and look pretty) just to pay our tithes.

It was about that time that God brought a special group of children into my life. There was a class of kids that came through my doors that had a large number of Christian students. I watched these kids gather and pray each morning, attend bible meetings, speak up for Christ in class during discussions and debates, and show amazing kindness to others. This class moved in me so much that I felt like the hypocrite I was. I was attending church on Sunday, but I sure wasn’t going because I wanted to. This group of students and tugs from the Holy Spirit brought me back on track with God. Sort of ironic that I probably learned more about the kind of person that I wanted to be from my students than they did for me. This group of kids will always have a special place in my heart. And, on a side note, my friend was right. As soon as we started tithing, our financial problems began clearing up. Kind of funny how it all worked out just the way God intended.

I still keep up with several students from that class. It does my heart so much good to know that several years after graduation they are still seeking God. One of the young ladies from this class is on her way to Africa for a missionary trip. Others are praising God on Facebook. I feel truly blessed that God brought this group of kids into my life. And, I am also thankful for my parents who I thought were so horrible when they were making me go to church.

Supporting Small Town Businesses

I love to see people open shops in small towns. They give the community character. My friend Kerri is in the process of opening her shop, Della’s Delicious Goodies and Gifts. She has made several cakes for my family and they have all been delicious. Here is a picture of the cake she made for my son’s birthday back in September! Is it really a deal?

A co-worker of mine is a member of Amazon Prime and loves it. Are any of you guys subscribers? The are several benefits of being a member and they all sound great, but $79 seems a little steep. Trying to decide if it is worth this amount to get fast and free shipping when you can opt to order $25 and get free shipping anyway. Any thoughts?
